Echappe founders David Wiswell and Gabe Lloyd raced this event on Saturday under ideal racing conditions. Threats of rain held off for the event and made for a great race. Wiswell had good position all day, but wasn’t feeling the kick at the end and finished 25th. Lloyd was competing in his first USA Crit Series race, so he was learning the ropes and was content with finishing in the field at 45th.
The pace was high, but not insane. Once the break went with 32 laps to go (the race was 60 laps total) the field motored along at 50kph for a while. When we were caught by the break with 12 to go, we started racing again and the last few laps were pretty crazy. The lesson here is to simply stay put in the field and keep your matches for the end of the race.
David raced a set of Shimano Dura Ace tubeless wheels and Gabe races a set of Bontrager Aeolus 5.0 ACCs. Both ran alloy braking surface wheels incase it started to rain.
