Stallion Wheels Available
Powertap Jet 69s now available.
This is for a Jet 6 C2 front and a Jet 9 C2 rear wheel. If you want to flip flop this configuration for some reason , just make a note in the comments section of the checkout.
Like the standard Jet, only way better.
The new version is built on our C2 rim extrusion. C2 is alloyed with Scandium, which makes it lighter than the old version, which is nice; but what really excites us is what a wider rim does to the tire.
On a 23mm wide rim, the tire beads are farther apart and the tire profile is shorter and rounder. Put a 20 or (especially) a 23mm tire on a 19mm rim and the resulting profile looks more or less like a lightbulb. Even with an aero rim behind it, the wind still "sees" a bulb at both ends of the wheel. On the C2 wheels, a 20mm tire looks like a bullet, and even a 23 does not hang over the brake surface. The wind "sees"; a smoother shape. The result is that you are faster.
C2 has:
Lower drag. The airflow is more laminar and less turbulent as it transitions from the tire surface to the rim surface (and from rim to tire on the trailing edge of the wheel).
Lower rolling resistance. Widening out the tire improves the shape of the contact patch, making it shorter front to back, and wider. A shorter contact patch means that a smaller section of sidewall deflects at the ground. Less sidewall deflection - lower rolling resistance.
Vastly improved cornering, sprinting, and out of the saddle climbing. Cornering is better because there is more rubber in contact with the road, and just as important. the straightened sidewalls don't flex as much under hard cornering. With less sidewall flex, sprinting and out of the saddle climbing both more efficient since less energy is lost to tire flex.
NOTE: Over 190lbs? You probably need the Stallion build. Built stronger to take what you can dish out. Open the gates and let it rip. You can email for more information or to start a conversation.
Are these wheels inferior to Zipp? Hardly. Light, strong and fast, especially for TT use. As a front wheel, the 60 will create the frontal air-foil you are looking for without catching heavy cross winds.
Jet 90: If your course might have strong cross winds or lots of hills, or both, this is your rear wheel for a TT or triathlon. The 90mm crossection creates an airfoil for the rear of the bike, while still allowing cross winds to pass perpendicularly through the wheel.
NOTE: This wheelset is currently only available as a clincher for rentals. This can be purchased as either tubular or clincher.
